Lenin Rajendran, acclaimed director has been selected for the Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai Memorial Award 2011, according to news reports from the mainstream media.

According to the press release dated 26 July, 2011,

Lenin Rajendran - DirectorEminent film director Lenin Rajendran has been chosen for the Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai Memorial award for his contribution to Malayalam cinema. The award, instituted by Muthukulam Raghavanpillai Trust in memory of Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai, an eminent actor, lyricist and screenplay writer, includes a cash of Rs 10,000 and a citation.
The award would be presented to the director at a function to be held at Muthukulam on August 14, Trust secretary V Raghunath told reporters here today. Raghavan Pillai, who died in 1979, wrote the screenplay and dialogues of ”Balan”, the first Malayalam talkie and ”Jeevithanauka’‘, said to be the first box office hit in Malayalam film industry.

Thank God, Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai has not yet completely been erased from public memory. I had read about a cultural forum at Muthukulam called Kalithattu which had been formed to initiate activities and cultural programs to honor the memory of this accomplished patriarch of Malayalam Cinema and presume this would also be one of their initiatives.

If anyone has any information on the awardees from the previous years, request you to do write in or share through these forums.
