RD Burman, Avalude Ravukal (1978) and an inspired lullaby

Unni Aaraariro from Avaludey Raavukal (1978)

Thank you Achinthya.

Unni Aarariro from Avaludey Raavukal was one composition that, at one hand sounded so perfect that it felt out of place in AT Ummer‘s musical style and immediately set forth amber lights and faint sirens in your head🙂 Some how one just felt that it had ‘crossed borders’ before it reached AT Ummer‘s harmonium.

Unni Aarariro is one of the most lilting lullabies ever, personally, from Malayalam Cinema.  And with RD Burman’s original tune, and with lyrics by Bichu Thirumala so universally perfect , it somehow magically acquired the cult status it enjoys now.

So, thank you Achinthya for serving the ‘original dish’ on a platter.

Here is Unni Aarariro from Avaludey Ravukal ( 1978)

Lyrics: Bichu Thirumala
Music (?) : AT Ummer
Performed by S Janaki

Here is the original, Keh Rahe Hain by RD Burman.

Lyrics: Anand Bakshi
Music : RD Burman

  1. The Song raakenthu kiranangal was also taken from lata Mangeshkar solo in the hindi film Swami “Pal Bhar Mein Yeh Kya Ho Gaya”. The Music for Swami was composed by Rajesh Roshan.

  2. lights and faint sirens in your *heard*…!

I’ve heard this hindi song before…. never connected it to Unni arriraro…

But you are right the lullaby sounds perfect in Malayalam.. I’ll forgive AT Ummer🙂
