The RAGAMALIKA – JAYAN AWARD instituted by Jayan Samskarika Vedi in memory of the late Jayan, actor,who passed away on 16 November 1980, is awarded to Poovachal Khader, acclaimed lyricist and wordsmith whose contributions to the popular music charts in Malayalam Cinema, especially the late 80’s through the early 2000’s is incomparable.
The award includes a Cash prize of Rs10,000, a memento & citation and will be presented to him tomorrow , 16-11.2010 at the Y.M.C.A.Hall. Thiruvananthapuram at 6 P.M. Sri. Sreekumaran Thampi, as the patron of the Jayan Samskarika Vedi has instituted the award to honor the contributions of stalwarts who have helped nourish the Malayalam Film industry to what it is today.
Kallara Gopan and his troupe would be presenting a selected playlist of his popular compositions. The entry is free and all are invited.

Poovachal had capability of writing lyrics in very short time. Remember reading that once he got an emergency call from studio while he was packing for a trip. Train was one hour away. and he was able to complete it and reach station on time. Most of the 80’s 90’s golden songs has his stamp. I believe he is mostly into construction biz now

Thats true, he seemed to have this awesome capability of churning out stuff that somehow turned itself into chartbusters though the lines sometimes had you looking around for directions 🙂
