ഒരു കാലഘട്ടത്തെ ജനങ്ങളെ ആവോളം കോരിത്തരിപ്പിച്ച , വര്ഷങ്ങള് കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടും പുതു തലമുറയുടെ മനസ്സില് നിറ ദീപമായി തെളിഞ്ഞു നില്ക്കുന്ന എന്റെ ജയേട്ടന് , അല്ല നമ്മുടെ ജയേട്ടന് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കില് ഇന്ന് 73 വയസ്സ് !
1939 ജൂലൈ 25 എന്ന ദിവസം മലയാള സിനിമ ചരിത്രത്തില് സ്ഥാനം പിടിക്കുന്നത് ഏറെ വര്ഷങ്ങള് കഴിഞ്ഞാണ്.അന്ന് തേവള്ളി കൊട്ടാരം വീട്ടില് മാധവന് പിള്ളക്കും ഭാര്യ ഭാരതിയമ്മയ്ക്കും ആദ്യത്തെ കണ്മണി പിറന്നപ്പോള്, അതും ഒരു ആണ്കുട്ടി, അവര് ഒത്തിരി സന്തോഷിച്ചു കാണണം.ആ കുട്ടിക്ക് അവര് കൃഷ്ണന് നായര് എന്ന് പേരിട്ടു. (പക്ഷെ വര്ഷങ്ങള്ക്കു ശേഷം ആ കുട്ടിയെ മലയാളം നെഞ്ചോട് ചേര്ത്തു പിടിച്ചപ്പോള് , അവന്റെ വേര്പാടില് കേരളം ഭാരതിയമ്മയെക്കാള് ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ആ ജൂലൈ 25 മലയാള സിനിമ ചരിത്രത്തില് ഇടം പിടിച്ചു . മലയാളം കണ്ട ആദ്യത്തെ ക്ഷുഭിതയൌവ്വനം. )
ആ കുട്ടി വളര്ന്നു.പത്താം തരം പാസ്സായ ശേഷം നേവിയില് ചേര്ന്നു.പക്ഷെ ഓരോ ജന്മത്തിനും ദൈവം ഓരോ അവതാര ലക്ഷ്യം ചേര്ത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.കൃഷ്ണന് നായര് കറങ്ങി തിരിഞ്ഞു തന്റെ നിയോഗത്തില് എത്തി.ശാപമോക്ഷമായി മലയാള സിനിമയില് എത്തി. ഈ കൃഷ്ണന് നായര് ആരാണ് എന്ന് മനസ്സില് എങ്കിലും ചോദിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില് നിങ്ങള് മലയാളം സിനിമ കാണാറില്ല എന്നര്ത്ഥം.ഏതൊരു നടനെ ആണു മരണശേഷവും മലയാളികള് മനസ്സില് കൊണ്ടു നടക്കുന്നത്, ഏതൊരു നടന് ആണു മലയാളത്തിന്റെ “ജയന്റ് റോബോ” ആയതു, അതായിരുന്നു കൃഷ്ണന് നായര് എന്ന ജയന്. ജയന്റെ ഒരു ജീവരേഖ എഴുതാന് മാത്രം മണ്ടനല്ല ഞാന്, കാരണം അതറിയാത്തവര് ചുരുക്കമാണ്! സ്വന്തം വീട്ടിലെ ഒരു അംഗമായിരുന്നു പഴയ തലമുറയ്ക്ക് ജയന്.
സ്വന്തം ശരീരം മാത്രമല്ല, സൗന്ദര്യവും ഇത്ര കാര്യമായി, കരുതലോടെ പരിപാലിച്ചിരുന്ന വേറെ നടന്മാരുണ്ടോ എന്ന് സംശയമാണ്. എപ്പോഴും ഒരു പെട്ടിയും ആയി ആണു ജയന് ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങിന് വരുന്നത് എന്ന് കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്, ആ പെട്ടിയില് അദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഒരു വിഗ് ഉണ്ടാകുമത്രേ. ജയന്റെ അഭിനയത്തെ പക്ഷെ സംവിധായകര്ക്ക് വേണ്ടായിരുന്നു – ബനിയന് ഇട്ടു മസ്സില് പെരുപ്പിച്ചു നില്ക്കുന്ന ജയനെ മതിയായിരുന്നു എല്ലാവര്ക്കും. ഏതോ ഒരു സ്വപ്നം, വേനലില് ഒരു മഴ തുടങ്ങിയ ചിത്രങ്ങളില് മസ്സില് പെരുക്കാതെ വന്നത് ആദ്യ കാലത്ത്. ഒടുവില് വിധുബാലയുടെ അവസാന ചിത്രം ആയ അഭിനയത്തില് ജയന് മസ്സില് പെരുക്കേണ്ടി വന്നില്ല. ജയന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങളില് നായാട്ട്, ചന്ദ്ര ഹാസം പോലുള്ള അടി ഇടി പടങ്ങള് ആണു ജനമനസ്സില് ഇന്നും നില്ക്കുന്നത്. മനസ്സിനെ തൊടുന്ന വേഷങ്ങള് ഒരുപാടു ലഭിക്കാത്ത ഒരു ഹത ഭാഗ്യന് എന്നും വേണമെങ്കില് പറയാം.

ജയനെ പറ്റി പറയുമ്പോള് സീമയെ പറ്റി കൂടി പറയാതെ വയ്യ.സീമയും ജയനും ഒരു കാലത്ത് പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ ഹരമായിരുന്നു. ഒപ്പം സീമയുടെ ഭര്ത്താവും സംവിധായകനും ആയ ഐ വി ശശിയും. ഈ മനുഷ്യന് ആണു ജയനെ പിടിച്ചു സാധാരണകാരുടെ മനസ്സില് ഇരുത്തിയത് – അങ്ങാടിയിലെ “we are not beggers” പറയാത്ത എത്ര ആളുകള് ഉണ്ട് ഇന്ന് ? ഐ വി ശശി കഴിഞ്ഞാല് പിന്നെ ജയന് പിടിച്ചു കയറാന് ഏണി വച്ചു കൊടുത്തത് ജോഷി ആണു - മൂര്ഖന് പോലുള്ള പടങ്ങള് !അടിയും ഇടിയും ആണെങ്കിലും,”അഭിനയിക്കാന്” അവസരം കൊടുത്ത ശ്രീകുമാരന് തമ്പിയെയും ഓര്ക്കണം. പുതിയ വെളിച്ചം പല രൂപത്തില് പല നിറത്തില് വീണ്ടും മലയാളികളുടെ മുന്നില് വന്നെങ്കിലും അവയൊന്നും ജയന്റെ അത്രയും ദീപ്തം അല്ലായിരുന്നു.

അവതാര ലക്ഷ്യം പൂര്ത്തിയായാല് പിന്നെ ഭൂമിയില് മനുഷ്യന് സ്ഥാനമില്ല. മരണ ശേഷം അഗ്നിനാളങ്ങള് ഏറ്റു വാങ്ങിയ ആ ശരീരത്തില് അഗ്നിയെ തോല്പിച്ച അസ്ഥികളെ ബന്ധുക്കള്ക് വിട്ടു കൊടുത്തില്ല ആരാധകര് , മറ്റൊരു നടനും ഒരു പക്ഷെ ഇത്രയേറെ ജനമനസ്സില് കയറി താമസിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. മനുഷ്യ മൃഗം എന്ന സിനിമയില് ജയനോട് ജോസ് പ്രകാശ് പറയുന്നു ”ഇത് ചെയ്യാന് നിന്നെ പോലെ ഒരാള്ക്കേ കഴിയു” . ജയന്റെ മറുപടി ജോസ് പ്രകാശിനോട് മാത്രമായിരുന്നില്ല , മലയാളികളോട് മുഴുവന് ആയിരുന്നു.
ജയന് പറഞ്ഞു, “എന്നെ പോലെ ഒരാള്ക്ക് അല്ല, എനിക്ക് മാത്രമേ കഴിയൂ.”
അതു തന്നെ ആവണം കൃഷ്ണന് നായര് എന്ന ജയനെ 2012 – ലും നിത്യഹരിതമായ, ദീപ്തമായ ഓരോര്മായാക്കി നിലനിര്ത്തുന്നതും.
Thanks Jay..I remember I was in 3rd..and my mother told me about his death in the morning. I was a huge Jayan fan never missing any of his movies that played at the three theaters in my village (those days). I remember rushing to look at Kerala Kaumudi ( 3 page news paper then) first page as I was in disbelief. Sill remember his picture in the newspaper. I dint go to school, the next day I was so sad and depressed. Very soon my uncles( teenagers and my theater mates then) told me the story of Jayan being kidnapped and taken to the US by a gang to “help” them. At the time all of us liked to believe it was true and he was alive. Also remember my uncle’s comment on the issue was “Avarude bhagyam”. Would like to read that book..never heard of anyone I knew, getting hold of it.
When i was 12 years old in 1980 jayan was died. That time it was a very big news.Even the newspapers wrote news that director I.V.Sasi,MGR,M.G.Soman,Sathar,Balan.K.Nair was behind his death, But later on people recogonised that it was all fake news.Jayan died because he fell down from a height of 10 feet from the helicopter and back side of his head was crushed which lead him to death.
Today if jayan was alive no doubt his position will be the first of the superstars.
and Reji Sir…sometime back in Mathrubhumi there was an article about Jayan and about the various books that were published post his death. There was abook which proclaimed that jayana was not actually dead but was living in United States. another book directly pinpointed Balan K. Nair and Sukumaran being the persons behind his death. i do not have any of these books with me…wonder if anyone here could help me out.
after Jayan’s death his real life brother, Ajayan acted in a movie (dont remember the name of the movie). Ratheesh, Bheeman Raghu (Raja Vembala- his answer to Moorkhan) and even Mammootty (who adopted the name Sajin to rhyme with Jayan in his early days) came as Jayan wannabes.
And now we hear that Kolilakam 2 is in the progress with Bheeman Raghu in the helm of affairs…is this sequel needed??

I think the coverpage of the one about him alive in the US, with the same staple shot of his from Kolilakkam, with the title screaming Jayan Americayil, the whole thing resembled a pattupusthakam and slightly thicker
Ajayan acted in two movies, kattaruvi and suryan. In suryan ajayan was the hero and in kattaruvi sukumaran was the hero and ajayan did a side role. But there were fights in both films for him. Ajayan’s son aadityan is also a famouse serial actor and movie too. he acted as hero in maniyara kallan directed by rajan p dev
Jayan’s brother acted in few movies like Sasikumar’s Sooryan,Kaataruvi,Alleppy Asharafs Oru madapravinte katha & Swarnagopuram etc…
Jayan’s death was really seen by P.N.Sundharam director of Kolillakkam ,Madhu sir ,K.R.Vijay and the some of the kolilakkam crews.
Many fake news were published that time but it all helped to fill the pocket of the publishers.
I was in UKG when Jayan died. I did not know who he was or what he was….but this was the first celebrity death I witnessed….or for that matter the day I came to know what “death” actually was.

Actually he looked okay in some roles, mostly villains, before attaining stardom, which eventually led him into that premature close. Also, never forget the current superstars too were initially so pathetic. And, at least, he figured in one of the very best songs ever in the language, ഒരു മുഖം…
that was a good article my jay mohanan.. but i wish some one to write an artilce about the ACTOR JAYAN and not the action hero jayan.. that will be a surprise article for the readers. JAYAN was an action hero we all know that.. but there was a comedian in his heart and he showed his caliber in doing comedy in films like ANUPALLAVI, and also a glimpses of his comedy timing was shown in films like SNEHIKKAN SAMAYAMILLA, MIDUKKI PONNAMMA, MAKAM PIRANNA MANKA, RATHI MANMATHAN etc.. and actually these movies made me a JAYAN fan morethan his DISHUM DISHUM films. and i am sure that those who had seen these movies will agree with me.
and of course i remember his role POOTTATHA POOTTUKAL (his only tamil film) very much.
Nice article, Jay. Your adoration for the man comes through; I was in school when he died, and was very, very sad. He had been the hero I had seen so often in the Malayalam films of the time.
